Rick Schmidt, P.L.S. now calls Level-4 home

Level-4 Engineering LLC is pleased to introduce the newest member of its team. Rick Schmidt, formerly of Schmidt Engineering & Surveying LLC in Topeka, will join the Level-4 staff on Monday, February 23, as a registered land surveyor and senior engineering technician.
Max DaMetz, senior principal engineer for Level-4, said with Schmidt’s 31 years of experience in his field and registrations in both Kansas and Missouri, he will make a valuable addition to the firm.
“His capabilities, experience and personality mesh well with Level-4’s goals,” DaMetz said of Schmidt.
Rick will work out of the firm’s Topeka office alongside Mark Boyd, senior engineering technician, in a variety of different areas including surveying, site plans, business development, zoning, subdivision plans and client relations.
Several Level-4 employees have built a relationship with Rick through working with him the past three years and are impressed with his work ethic as well as his commitment to his clients.
“Rick has built his outstanding reputation through service to his clients and his hands on approach to every project,” DaMetz said.

Firm lends a hand at local MATHCOUNTS competition

Level-4’s Ryan DaMetz ran the show at the Kansas Society of Professional Engineer Eastern Chapter of MATHCOUNTS competition on Tuesday, Feb. 3 as this year’s event coordinator.
The Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kan. was packed with nearly 200 students from 26 area middle schools for the day long math competition which featured team and individual written tests along with a live Countdown Round where individuals rang buzzers to answer questions placed on a projector screen.
Top team and individual scores were rewarded with a trophy and a chance to compete in the state MATHCOUNTS competition in March. The top team was also invited to attend the KSPE Engineerâ€™s Luncheon on Feb. 18.

DaMetz thanked the event volunteers, made up of area engineers, who lent a hand with grading as well as making sure the entire event ran smoothly.

Level-4 Engineer Ryan DaMetz recently learned he will join the ranks of his fellow L-4 Engineers, Max DaMetz, David Brucker, Daniel Cook and Brett Napier, as a Professional Engineer. Ryan took the Professional Engineering Licensing Exam on Oct. 24 and had to wait two long months for the results, but received a large envelope of good news during the final days of 2008 â€“ a positive start to the New Year.
A â€œP.E.â€ will now appear after his name on official documents and he will be able to stamp his work with his personal Professional Engineer seal. On the right, Ryan practices using his new seal stamp. Engineers must work under a Professional Engineer for four years after graduating from college before taking the licensing exam.

Ryan DaMetz is also the 2009 MATHCOUNTS Coordinator for the Eastern Chapter of the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers. MATHCOUNTS, an annual math competition for junior high students sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers, is held at the chapter, state and national level. Ryanâ€™s job includes anything and everything related to organizing the regional event and making sure it runs smoothly, such as corresponding with teachers and gathering volunteers to grade tests.
Approximately 192 students from 26 schools will be participating in this yearâ€™s Eastern Chapter competition on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kan.

Basehor-Linwood Education Foundation Scholarship Golf Classic

Level-4 employees Brett Napier (far right) and Garrett Ochs (second from right) enjoyed an afternoon of golf with Rick Roedel (far left) and Mike Duncan (second from left) of Affinity Development Friday, September 26 for the Basehor-Linwood Education Foundation Scholarship Golf Classic at Falcon Lakes Golf Course in Basehor, Kan.
The team, who is working on the Basehor Town Center project together, finished 4 under par and Ochs sunk a 50-foot putt to win the putting contest.
All proceeds from the event go to the Basehor-Linwood Education Foundation, which provides scholarships to students in the Basehor-Linwood School District. This year’s golf tournament raised more than $9,000. Level-4 Engineering contributed $700 as a hole sponsor this year.
